Ghost-Job Detector — Privacy Policy

Ghost-Job Detector is a browser extension that shows whether a job listing you are viewing on LinkedIn or Indeed is likely a genuine opening or a ghost / reposted listing. This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with data.

Single purpose

The extension has one purpose: to display a "ghost job" verdict for the job listing currently open in your browser tab.

What we access and send

When you view a job page on LinkedIn or Indeed, the extension reads a small amount of public information about that listing in order to look up a verdict:

• the job board (LinkedIn or Indeed),
• the job's public ID and URL,
• when visible on the page, the job title, company name, and the public job description text (so the service can evaluate the posting's wording).

Requests also include a random installation identifier (a UUID generated on install, not derived from or linked to your identity) used to manage the free trial and prevent abuse, and — only if you activate a purchase — the license key you enter, which is verified with Gumroad (our payment provider).

This information is sent to our verdict service (hosted on Cloudflare Workers) solely to return a verdict (real / questionable / ghost) and its supporting signals (such as how many times the listing has been reposted and how long it has been live). The verdict is cached locally in your browser so pages load quickly.

What we do NOT collect

• No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account credentials.
• No resumes, cover letters, messages, or application data.
• No browsing history and no pages other than the job listing you are actively viewing.
• No tracking across sites; no advertising identifiers.

What the extension does NOT do

It is read-only. It does not sign in to, modify, autofill, or submit anything on your LinkedIn or Indeed account, and it never applies to jobs on your behalf.

Permissions and why

• Access to linkedin.com and indeed.com — to detect the job page you are on and place the verdict badge.
• Access to our verdict service (Cloudflare Workers) — to fetch the verdict for that job.
• Storage — to cache verdicts locally on your device for speed, and to keep your trial/license state.
• Tabs — so the toolbar popup can read the address of the job page you currently have open and show its verdict. No other tabs are read.

Data sharing and sale

We do not sell, rent, or transfer your data to third parties. The listing identifiers sent to our verdict service are used only to compute and return the verdict.

Data retention

Cached verdicts live in your browser's local storage and are cleared when you remove the extension or clear browser data. Requests to our verdict service may be logged transiently for reliability and abuse prevention and are not used to build a profile of you.

Children

The extension is intended for job seekers and is not directed at children under 13.
